Russian summer revisited

Russia welcomed New Jersey Ballet this summer, from sun-drenched Samara, a city on the Volga River, to thoroughfares bustling with shoppers in Moscow, and skies exploding with fireworks during St. Petersburg's fabled White Nights.
New Jersey Ballet got a head start on its 50th anniversary season when the troupe made a seven-city tour of Russia in June.
Huge billboards advertised the company's appearances in a program of contemporary dances, some set to American jazz. According to artistic director Carolyn Clark, rhythmic clapping and repeated curtain calls signaled audiences' delight. Sleep was hard to come by on a tour that kept the dancers moving nearly continuously by train, plane and bus.
Now it's back to planning a home season that will feature a new evening of Latin dances at the Community Theatre in Morristown, and a revival of the company's full length Sleeping Beauty, with orchestra, destined for Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn.
