New Jersey Ballet Company Cancels Its 2020 Fall Season

and 50th Anniversary Statewide Tour of Nutcracker

posted 8/25/2020

It is with great sadness that New Jersey Ballet Company announces the cancellation of all Fall 2020 performances, including the Company’s highly anticipated 50th Anniversary production of Nutcracker. The health and safety of our artists, staff, and audience members is our top priority. Based on current guidance from the Governor and local health officials, it is not possible to safely hold large indoor gatherings or to rehearse in the manner required to present public performances.

The Company is especially disappointed not to be able to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of New Jersey’s longest running professional production of Nutcracker. For nearly half a century, the production has brought holiday joy to hundreds of thousands of audience members from Bergen to Cape May County. The production also provides over 300 young students with the opportunity to perform in a professional production with a talented troop of world-class dancers.

New Jersey Ballet Company is closely monitoring updates from health officials and will reassess the feasibility of presenting a 2021 Winter/Spring Season. Meanwhile, the Company is planning to present works virtually during the Fall 2020 season. With our dancers unable to perform on stage, the Company is determined to present exciting and innovative virtual content online, so that our audience can stay connected with the Company during these challenging times.

The Company has launched a COVID-19 Emergency Fund to support its efforts. We are grateful for the generous support we have received to date and will continue to work tirelessly to navigate this time of uncertainty.  Contributions can be made at njballet.org/support.html. All contributions are 100% tax deductible. The CARES Act permits individuals to deduct up to $300 of cash contributions to charities such as the Company, regardless of whether they itemize deductions.
